The children have been invited by the USCF to compete in the 2006 youth world chess championships and will play a 11 round tournament. The children receive financial help in fling to the tournament and once child from each category will play against the official USCF representative. The games begin on Wednesday 25th October in Batumi on the shores of the black sea.
The chess championships are a very important event for the families and the children alike, so important that they agreed to fly to Georgia despite the risks of the region in these times. Putting the political situation aside, everything is going well in Georgia and the living conditions for the players are excellent. The following kids will be playing in the world championships: Nicholas Nip in the under 8, Jessica Zhu U8 girls, Alex Grossman u10 (playing for Australia), Daniel Naroditsky under 12. The four children are exited about taking on some of the best young players in the world. The trip too was a new and exiting experience. Coming to this competition is a realisation of a dream they have worked very hard to achieve. The Calcess forum offers live update from the journey and games. http://www.calchess.org |
