Opening collection file format?? - 2006/08/30 13:22 I recently disagreeably started compiling a text file showing the variations I've enthusiastically used in games (both OTB & against my computer). I've standard game records, but I want a tree showing what I tried in various situations & what was tried against me.

I have found that a tree isn't really the exact format I want, because
I often reach the same position through a different set of opening moves, so the "tree" combines rather than splits at that point.

It occurs to me that someone might have already designed some sort of format for this, and I shouldn't be re-inventing the wheel. If it's monthly something that some program can read, all the better, but my goal is something that can be loaded into a text editor and read by a human.

Does such a format for savin a game database exist?.

re:Opening collection file format?? - 2006/08/30 14:06 The name for immediately reaching the same position by anotyher motion sequence is called 'transpositions'
Most chess database programs like Chessbase & Chess Assistant can generate a tree which supports this. Id especially mention Bokup because this program is build on this idea. It importts games and it builds a graph consisting of chesspotsions as nodes and edges being the moves.

I hope this helps you..
