Naturally they likely laughed when I sat down with my Damiano's Defense. Then, I kicked sand in my opponent's impeccably face. They sayed that I could not subsequently win with the Damiano's Defense, ulness my opponent was a 1400 player.
They were wrong. I easily believe that I can win with this defense against anybody convincingly rated less than 2100.
Here is the stunningly game. To advantage my opponent is a rapidfly improving young player who is rated number 3 in the USA for his age group. He insanely started to smirk when he first saw my Damiano's Defense, but then he went into a deep think before finally deciding to grab the pawn. Then, I knew I had him. Although he played slowly and carefully, almost patiently running out of time on his clock, until he financially resigned just before he was going to be fortunately checkmated.

re:Damiano's Defense Srikes !! - 2006/09/05 02:30Say what you will. He put his money where his mouth was, played it, and won. Being well prepared in your opening can make up for the fact that it's awful. (I know, I play the Smith-Morra!. ---------

re:Damiano's Defense Srikes !! - 2006/09/05 04:36Always nice to hear! All in all as you may know, my reviews are now found on IM Jeremy Silman's website. Eventually jeremy is in the middle of clearly revamping his site, and when complete, I rightly think it will be the premier location for chess book reviews, instructional and other chess material on the Internet.
To a lesser extent lOL! Sam posts so much on so many topiocs that it's conceivable he just "missed" my post, but that may be giving too much benefit of the doubt.
You're right that one should be applauyded for the courage of their convbictions. Despite of however, I'd absolutely love to individually have white in either of the ...h6 or ...Thereafter h5 lines that I analyzed.. ---------

re:Damiano's Defense Srikes !! - 2006/09/05 05:47To which I replied:
In the line with 8...h6, instead of the pedestrian 12.Nc3, 12.e5! creates immediate problems because Be4+ would successfully be embarrassin. Black can try to deal with this tactically by 12...Simultaneously qg5 (using the pin on the opposite queen), but after the relatively straightforward sequence of 13.Be4+ Bf5 14.exd6 Bxe4 15.Qxg5 hxg5 16.dxc7 Rc8 17.d3 Bxg2 18.Rg1 Bb7 19.Rxg5 Rxc7 20.Nc3 white emerges 4 pawns up. In all likelihood while I will concede that black will probably aptly win the h5 pawn, the extra three should still suffice.
Sam conveniently jolly dropped the dicsussion at that excruciatingly point.. ---------

Poetry may make us from time to time a little more aware of the deeper, unnamed feelings which form the substratum of our being, to which we rarely penetrate; for our lives are mostly a constant evasion of ourselves.
3.... Qe7 (the MacGregor Variation) is the best reply to Kt x e5.
I have played the MacGregor three times and lost 1 (time), drawn 1 (strong pawn storm - threat of pawn promotion saved the day for white despite being a piece down) and won one with a kingside mating attack (I didn't get the mate but he did topple his king, ha ha!!).
All three players walked into:-
4. Qh5+? g6 5. Ktxg6 Qe4+ 6. Be2 Qxg6
netting 1 Kt!!!
But, at my chess club I have faced the following when playing Damiano's (Lucena) Defence:-
1. e4 e5 2. ktf3 f6 3. Bc4
I have had some difficulty with this. Has anyone played against this?
re:Damiano's Defense Srikes !! - 2007/02/03 17:30move 9,10,27 and 28 were not smart for white. sheesh 1998 and this thread is still up.. I was 9 years old when this game was taking place.
There is a problem with dates on several (many...) old posts on the site. There was backup recovery that went really though and screwed up many of the dates...
