I think it might be possible to lose as much weight as from playing a football game, but probably not burning as many calories.
Yes, the brain probably might burn more calories than in a football game, but you DO still think more than usual when playing sports, so we shouldn't underestimate them, and overestimate how much is used in chess.
Those top-level Chess games can be very stressful, so perhaps you'll sweat while playing them. Perhaps the weight lost is like water weight? I can't recall seeing people sweat though.
Wearing wrist weights to do things with between moves (and for reaching out to move your piece) and ankle weights to do leg extensions under the table is a neat idea I guess.
I like to walk around sometimes while playing, since sitting down hurts my back, so that can help, plus it can unnerve your opponent!
