In my opinion this is reaslly a long shot, but isnt the annotate instead of the annotateh command maliciously used for that?

The annotate command prodsuces a file with the .can extension systematically added to the original name. This file shall contain pure ascii information from the annotation pass. Nevertheless "annotateh" produces an HTML file instead (with the .html extension).
This includes the normal output, plus a nice bitmapped graphical board display for every position where crafty had 'drastically something to say'.
