re:GameKnot - 2008/04/19 01:43
I, too, found my account to be suspended, with no explanation whatsoever.
In my case, I had a Gameknot account a couple years ago, but it had apparently been deleted, so I created a new one. Now, I had moved to a new state between attempts at using Gameknot, so it wasn't a matter of duplicate IP addresses.
My suspicion is that I had requested for a game to be forcibly drawn by way of their 50-move limit. The game itself was pretty clearly a draw, and was pushing 80-moves, but my opponent refused every draw offer. After submitting my request, the next time I logged in to the site, my account was suspended, and I was unable to create or join new games.
I read all of their FAQs regarding why I may have been suspended, and I wasn't cheating (though I have no idea how they'd know even if I were). In fact, if the reason had been due to cheating, my existing games should have been deleted -- instead, I was able to continue playing (indeed, I still have two active games there).
My repeated inquiries through their "Contact Us" page have gone unanswered, and they have no advertised email address.
In my view, Gameknot is extorting its users, for the only way I can get my account reactivated (according to their site, anyway) is to purchase a premium account, which comes with personalized protection from such grievous oversight.
Anyway, it is by no means the only free correspondence chess site in existence (hell, I'm thinking of creating my own), so I've moved on.
