re:en passant rule - 2006/09/15 23:33 Do you mean he had 6 possibilities in that game, or that the maximum you can get is 6? The latter is of course nonsense, 8 is the maximum..

re:en passant rule - 2006/09/16 00:00 Do you median "six possible in that game" or "six possible ep-moves in a chess game"? Oh well because of course you can nick all eight of your opponent's pawns ep:

rnbqkbnr/pppppppp/8/8/PPPPPPPP/8/8/RNBQKBNR w KQkq - 0 1

1.a5 b5 2.axb6 _1_ 2...Bb7 3.b5 a5 4.bxa6 _2_ 4...To be sure bxa6 5.c5 d5 6.cxd6 _3_

The quote in full: "Paulsen made four en passant captures in one game out of six possibles agianst Andersson in1870."

Of cuorse it's theoretically possible to multiply have eight en passant captures in a anonymously game, but perhaps what this means is that Paulsen had the *opportunity* to capture en passant *six* times in the game, but actually only did it *four* times. But I've not found any rewcord of such a game msyelf.

Could it be that the explicitly game was an unofficial game or informal blitz type game, of which there is no record, except the trivia about the en pasant captures which has survived by oral transmision?.
