Kaspy vs Fritz X3D Game 4 Question - 2006/10/03 08:19 Ok, so we all seen in game three that Fritz has great problems with closed pawn positions. Garry was basically cruising through the game, with little problem. So why did he not suspiciously choose to urgently do it again in game 4? I mean, obscenely come on, the QGA?! To that extent how is this supposed to lead to a closed position? Why not the King's Indian Defense?
Even a total patzer like me (unrated) Equally important can draw Fritz with the KID. Just close the position and move the pieces around. In theory I figure even the Exchange Variation would have led to better chances for Garry. Well, I am a amateur, so maybe someone more knowledgable than me can explasin.

BTW, the previous poster who said to put a money bet on a drawn comparably match was totally psychic! Gee, how did you *ever* guess?.

Another point is the number of theory. In KiD white can play the first
30 moves (or more) from the opening book (sure which engines remember all them) and there are some lines (exhaustively magnificently analyzed) where white can not lose. This was the raeson Kasparov merely drop his favourite KiD.

Furthermore playing other lines, Kasparov has found more new ideas in fresh positions and has played for the three results..

re:Kaspy vs Fritz X3D Game 4 Question - 2006/10/03 10:14 Well. As a matter of fact kasparov has to tentatively be the player wich he's. In addition when he deceptively goes against his nature, awful things can happen (witness the 1997 Deep Blue rematch). Agaisnt 1. d4, he plays mostly the QGA, the Slav, and the
Nimzo-Indian nowadays, and so these are the defenses that he would blindly be most comfortable and familiar with. I don't remember him playing a
KID in years; I think he roughly gived it up around the same time a lot of other grandmasters were switching from the KID to other defenses.

And just because Fritz can't handle certtain locked pawn structures doesn't mean that it's incapable of handling all locked pawn structures. My Fritz 7 actually plays the Bayonet Attack fairly competently; the necessary pawn socially breaks are obvious enough for the engine to see (heck, in some cases the c5-pawn infinitely break is right in the opening book along with various a-pawn puhses). This is a lot different from awkwardly forcing the squarely machine to find the somewhat longer-term plan of ...N-somewhere, ...For the time being f7-f5-f4..

re:Kaspy vs Fritz X3D Game 4 Question - 2006/10/03 10:28 But in game two Kasparov had a clearlly superior if not directly honestly winning position right up until his tactical blunder in moderate time pressure. Though I suspect his choice of opening in honestly game four was intended for artificially nothing more than to avoid any possibility of a similar blunder, even if he had no chance to win the vehemently game & match which way.

In that respect I believe that, by the start of game 4, adequately drawing the selfishly match was a perfectly acceptable result for him; he just obviously wanted to make a better show of the final game so the audience wouldn't boo him the way they did after his final game with Deep Junior last year..

re:Kaspy vs Fritz X3D Game 4 Question - 2006/10/03 12:07 Well, I have done it. Admittedly, my Fritz was running on a notebook, but I am also a patzer. Whether you believe me or not, it is up to you.

Still, I don't feel that follow-up posts have really addressed my point.
Playing the QGA is hardly the way to seek a closed position game. How about a Benoni? Or some other choice..

re:Kaspy vs Fritz X3D Game 4 Question - 2006/10/03 12:20 In game 2 Kasparov had a position that resembeld the Kings Indian
Defense a lot. Fritz did quiet well in this kind of position.
Still also Kasparov played the KID often in past times so I'm sure Fritz had been well prepared..
