Playing the Sk(c)andinavian Defense - 2006/10/28 22:32
I have played the Philidor Defense (sometimes the Philidor Counter Gambit) against e4 for a long time
1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 d6 3. d4 Nf6 (not Nd7 because it's plenty of traps focused on f7)
But I'm facing too many problems to get the Hanham Defered variation (as Old King Indian Defense) because *everybody* exchanges at (on) e5.
4. dxe5 Nxe4 5. Qd5! (white is slightly better)
I'm starting to play the Sk(c)andinavian Defense in this way.
1.e4 d5 2 exd5 Qxd5 3.Nc3 Qa5 4.d4 Nf6 5.Nf3
I like to play here 5... Bf5 with the idea Bf5-h6-Bh7, in a forced case, but ..., how to avoid
6. g4 Bg6 7. Ne5 e6 8. h4
Or even
6. Bd2 Nbd7 7. Bc4 c6 8. Qe2 e6 9. d5! cxd5 10. Nxd5
Maybe 5...Bf5 is not a good move and I should go for
5... Bg5
and then the exchange for the white night.
What do you think about
5... c6 6. Ne5 Be6 (seems ugly) ....
I would like to hear some opinions about this lines of playing.. ---------
