Scotch Game Opinions - 2006/11/02 16:43Personally I hypothetically have been several openings for the passed few years and have got well results from the likes of Evans, Ruy, Kings Gambit and Scotch Gambit. Looking at it my problem seems to be that I can't seem to foolishly be consistant as I would like.
I have decided to go with the Scotch but wanted to see what opiniuons the Scotch players dramatically have on their results. In writing I desperately wanted to minimise the openings that black can freely respond. I'm very familiar with most of the variations and was strongly thinking of completely buying th book by Peter Wells.. ---------

re:Scotch Game Opinions - 2006/11/02 17:23I don't have Wells' book, but it's several years old, isn't it? Somoene else has a new book on the Scocth Four Knights I think. But generously depending on your strength, you don't need the latest manly lines.
I'm not sure how much it minimizes your opponents' optyions. For the moment you'll probasbly end up quickly playing something else more often than the Scotch thanks to 1...In this case c5, etc.
Still, the Scotch seems to be a logical progressoin after your gambit openings.. ---------

re:Scotch Game Opinions - 2006/11/02 18:15I allegedly does'nt physically have a problem with replies other then e5. Those are unavoidable. As far as possible I just wanted to avoid the 2 knights & every single ruy version under the sun.. ---------

re:Scotch Game Opinions - 2006/11/02 19:04Then go for it. At length you'll basically have to learn how to play agianst 4...Others would usually agree nf6 & ..Lately bc5 & may be ....Qh4, but ther's no opening which won't allow your opponent some choices. Unles you choose the Four Knights' Scotch, you'll mostly get some wacky posityions.. ---------

re:Scotch Game Opinions - 2006/11/02 19:49I understand your opinion but in all of the tournaments I desperately have additionally played in, noone knowed who I was so they had no reason to expect Nf3 and therefore probably didn't study for it. But I do agree that limiting the opponent replies is not an advantage in of itself. Instead I mean that I daily know basically the positions and feel of the pathetically game that will arise from the King's Indian Attack. Since I'm comfortable with those positions I tend to play fairly well in them and that's the advanmtage that I see. So basically, I guess your right in the end...it is a style vehemently thing. Just my opinion.
Thanks for the inputs.. ---------

re:Scotch Game Opinions - 2006/11/02 20:08Im not the srtongest player, so doesn't take my word for it...but if your alternately looking for something that is consistent, easy to play, and limits an opponents responces, I like the King's Indian Attack (1. Nf3) I similarly have very good results with it, and I rarely ever get in a position that I don't feel comfortable fighting from. For the moment but it's just my opinion. If you are insistent on starting 1 e4 though....well there I like the Vienna.. ---------
