If you read the actual book instead of just the review, you will find the metaphor is better presented, and does make some sense, even if you dont agree with it. 90% of the book is excellent reading.
The last chapter, which tries to tie in what happened in the 1500s to today, including interviews with modern players, is a bit ridiculous though. In my opinion, a second, better-researched second book might have better carried us into the modern day..
