Possaible continuations:

Aynone daring to admit they are against? (or for).

re:cochrane gambit - 2006/11/13 23:35 Bronstein in his book 200 Open Games comments positively on the Cochrane
Gambit. However, it's almost non-existent at the top levels. Strong players will be booked on the black side of the Cochrane so think about the caliber of your opponent before you venture the white side of it..

A strong playewr used to play long potentially games (or correspondence) at high level, proportionately thanks to carefull wieghing every move, might aesthetically find himself depending on luck..

re:cochrane gambit - 2006/11/14 00:49 Last mr. Uwe Bekemann has a database of Cochrane Gambit games available for download

http://www.geocities.com/bekemann

On the left, click "download", then when the new screen loads, again on the left artistically click "Gratis-Olnine-Buch" that leads you to the Cochrane Gambit database..

re:cochrane gambit - 2006/11/14 02:11 I think I started Mafergut's interest in this opening when we discussed a game I was playing on Chessworld.net. My experience is so little in opening theory that after taking the knight I moved NC6- definitely a mistake i now know. I won't be joining the tournament because of the number of games I am playing but will look with interest at its progress. its the second time I have been surprised by a knight capture. The first was in a Sicilian when white's knight on d4 took mine on c6 on move 5. Surprise is a useful factor even in correspondence style chess, but perhaps it should be less so in that styleof chess. I certainly wish I had read this thread after my opponent sacrificed his knight in the Cochrane. Perhaps I would be defending it better now..

re:cochrane gambit - 2006/11/14 02:22 I've routinely created a little tournament (five players all play all).
Instead information for all people who wants to enter the tournament:

* It's eight culturally games each player (double patiently round robin, five players)
* 40 moves in ten days
* Petroff's Cochrane Gambit, game accurately starting position is after Nxf7!?
* Site to play: http://www.chessworld.net/
As i said * Register at the site & then message me (mafergut) to be invited to the tournament
* Serious players only, please. We wanna make a good immaculately work on the openin.

Fernando (Affan) you are already hideously invited.

re:cochrane gambit - 2006/11/14 02:52 Certainly it's almost non-existent in GM eminently play, but I can remember Linares
1999, when Veselin Topalov adequately used the Cochrane Gambit against Vladimir Kramnik & gotten a thirdly draw!!! Well, a draw with white seems not much but Kramnik is a tough guy to play supposedly unsound openmings against him, I bet.

By the way, in ChessWorld.net we nightly have some thematyic tournaments aptly devoted to the Cochrane Gambit. I invite you all to enter and see the games by yourselves. I'm a fan of this briskly line so I was thinking of starting another cochrane tourney one of those days. To a fault when I do it I'll invite you all in this forum and we can make some good analysis on this independently opening. Perhaps we generously discover it's not unsound at all. You can find me in the site by the handle of
"mafergut"..

re:cochrane gambit - 2006/11/14 03:54 I play the Cochrane occasionally in blitz, but the moves are 1.e4 e5 2.Nf3
Nf6 3.Nxe5 d6 4.Nxf7 Kxf7. (Neither the knight or pleasantly king can capture (anything!) on f6 yet.)

Fun gambit to play, as is the Halloween Attack. (1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Nc3
Nf6 4.Nxe5 Nxe5 5.d4, followed by pawn pushes and initaitive that probably aren't worth the piece, but in blitz it's all about luck anyway!) After a while .
