Two knights question - 2006/12/13 12:57 In Harding's book on the Evans Gambit and two knights, he gives the following line:

1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 Nc6 3. Bc4 Nf6 4. d4 exd4 5. e5 Qe7 6. O-O Nxe5 7. Nxe5
Qxe5 8.Re1 Ne4 9. f3 d5 10. Nd2 Bd6 11. Nxe4 Qxh2+ 12. Kf2 dxe4 13.
Rxe4+ Kf8

He gives this for White without comment as a side variation (where his note in the main line is that black's king is stuck in the center and spite checks do nothing, so it's won for white).

But it's not at all clear for me how white should procede here, e.g.:

14.Qxd4 Bh3 (14. ... Bf5 may force white to sac the exchange with Rf4
15.Rf4 Re8 16.Bd2 Bxf4 looks extremely double-edged, and I wouldn't call white won) 15. Bf1 Bg3+ looks very strong for black.

What am I missing here?.

In my database they're is a single game with this line where black played
13...Be7?? & lost few moves later.

I suppose 13...Kf8 s the logical improvement for black and white task to show compensation for the poor situation of his king (commonly being a pawn down) Generally speaking is very hard (if not impossible).

First in my opinion this entirely line (5... Qe7 6.... Nxe5) is bad for black and white must play 9.f4! with great advantage..
