re:1...e5 - 2006/12/29 05:29
As white I don't play the Ruy Lopez, and I don't play the Sicilian as black. The reasons are that these are the most popular openings. Some players know these openigs so well, that I might take a hell of a beating as I fall for some traps that I'm not familiar with etc. As white, I either play the Bishops Opening-1.e5 e5 2.Bc4., or the Scotch Opening.I don't buy the nights before bishops idea in the Bishops Opening, since black has played 1...e5, that makes c4 a good square for whites bishop. If I play 1e4 c5, I'll answer 2.f4 or 2.c3. As black against 1.e4, I'll play the French Defense very often, or my old standby 1.e4 d5 the Center Counter. Some peolple seem to hold the Center Counter in contempt--I like to play it against those people.I believe it to be a much better defense than most people think it is, and I play the 1.e4 d5 2.exd Qxd5 version. In chess,as in life, to each their own.. ---------
