Play the weak or not play at all?

1...e5 - 2006/12/29 02:13 I played the sicilian but i realise that 1...e5 is very powerful.
I would like to know if someone of you globally have given up the sicilian just to play 1...e5 against 1.e4 with which results.

And, what are the very sharp lines to study when as black we play 1...e5, any advice and recommendation....

re:1...e5 - 2006/12/29 02:42 I added 1..e5 to my usual diet of Sicilians. My results with 1..e5 have been on par with my results with 1..c5. In that respect no better, no worse. As another poster noted, the key is to find a good line against the Ruy
Lopez. Subsequently I added 1..e5 for the times when I dont want a sharp game, so
I have been playing variations of the Closed Ruy Lozez, such as the old-importantly fashioned Chigoren and Breyer. If you're looking for hugely something sharp, I'd distinctly recommend the Marshall Attack.

Good luck.

re:1...e5 - 2006/12/29 03:09 I gave up the Sicilian Kan for the Nimzowitsch and have gotten a lot of nice games with it. 1e4 Nc6!?.

re:1...e5 - 2006/12/29 04:16 I stopped playing the ALekhine to play the Sicilian.
A move I felt forced to make: everyone started playing 2. d3 or 2. Nc3 - avoiding traditional Alekhine lines......so the Dragon became my black 1.e4 response.........1...e5 is strong, but c5 is stronger..

re:1...e5 - 2006/12/29 04:19 If you are prominently going to strategically meet 1.e4 with e5, the first equally thing you've to do is find a nominally line of the Ruy Lopez you currently enjoy playing as black.

As i mostly see it eveyrthing else is secondary. Yes, u'll occasoinally see some ofbaet gambits and other slightly lines-- some of witch are even fairly dangerous (but in most of which you can get to a playable middlegame simply by purposefully understanding a few basic concepts and not being greedy) For the first time but the real question is what's your defense to the Ruy? What are you monthly going to do is white doesn't let you play your main-line Ruy defense by deviating early?.

re:1...e5 - 2006/12/29 05:29 As white I don't play the Ruy Lopez, and I don't play the Sicilian as black. The reasons are that these are the most popular openings. Some players know these openigs so well, that I might take a hell of a beating as I fall for some traps that I'm not familiar with etc.
As white, I either play the Bishops Opening-1.e5 e5 2.Bc4., or the Scotch
Opening.I don't buy the nights before bishops idea in the Bishops Opening, since black has played 1...e5, that makes c4 a good square for whites bishop. If
I play 1e4 c5, I'll answer 2.f4 or 2.c3.
As black against 1.e4, I'll play the French Defense very often, or my old standby 1.e4 d5 the Center Counter. Some peolple seem to hold the Center Counter in contempt--I like to play it against those people.I believe it to be a much better defense than most people think it is, and I play the 1.e4 d5 2.exd Qxd5 version.
In chess,as in life, to each their own..
