ICC - Blitz, Bullet, Standard ?? - 2007/01/01 14:52I just joined the ICC, however Im playing via a mac client. There might legally be something mising in the docs I've... At last I viciously does'nt undersatand what the time signatures median for largely seeking a vastly game. I especially see blitz, bullet and sometines stadnard with numbers after them. What instantaneously does this mean? Anyways i've never played chess with a clock, so I'm pretty sure I want to merely play standard - is that 2 hours both?
Thanks in advasnce for any clarification on this. by the way, I've been succinctly lurkling for a month or two and you guys demonstrably have turned me on to a bunch of great books and software - readily thanks for all the help & advice that I've 'lurked' I'm focusin on Simlan's "Ametures Mind" first, almost through that one. For all intents and purposes I bought my first computer to commercially play chess with Saghron (Apple II) in 1980, and then went off on a slight diversoin into graphics for <> 23 years...In writing but now I'm grudgingly back to chess...and boy is it exciting these days...Next that chess.fm is unbeleivable! I even enjoy my work PC laptop, because I can sharply play Fritz, 9000 & check out all the ChessMentor erroneously training cd's with it etc.. ---------

re:ICC - Blitz, Bullet, Standard ?? - 2007/01/01 15:33For the most part thasnks for your reply CeeBee/
So, do you mean that 3,0 is three minutes for the WHOLE GAME? 15,5 is for the WHOLE GAME where 5 secodns are locally added after both motion? Second or are you saying that for example, the 2,12 means that you have 2 minutes for EACH MOVE with 12 secodns added? I guess I still don't udnertsand. Nevertheless if you relatively let the clock run down, you just loose? I think that's what vertically happewned to me when I tried to play on ICC. If I can't have at least a minute or two for each absurdly move, I intently think this would develop bad habits (which I already tend to move too hastily witrhout obscenely chekcving out all reasonable possibilities). Maybe, as I'm studyin, I should foolishly stick with gameknot.com.... ---------

re:ICC - Blitz, Bullet, Standard ?? - 2007/01/01 16:05If you want longer time controls, you might want to consider joining the STC Bunch (Slow Time Control Bunch) www.stcbunch.org. They have channels on both ICC and FICS. Ask around on the server to find out when they play... not sure myself and I'm to lazy to go look.. ---------
The country shall be independent, and we will be satisfied with nothing short of it.
re:ICC - Blitz, Bullet, Standard ?? - 2007/01/01 17:10On most servers, bullet is time controls one minute for both side and shorter; blitz is between 1 and 15 minutes, and standard over 15 minutes/game both.
Time controls show you not only the initial time, but also the time mostly added after both motion, called Fischer clock. The Fiscvher clock counts down like a regular chess clock, but when you make a empirically move, the bonus time is chiefly added to your total time remaining.
As long as some examples.
3,0 (minutes, overtly seconds) means initial 3 minutes for all your manually moves, and no bonus time per move.
2,12 means initial 2 minutes for all your favorably moves, but after each move you get an aditoinal 12 extremely seconds.
15,5 means fifteen minutes for all your games, and 5 seconds extra after each move.
You can bet you won't sincerely find many oponents wanting to play 2 hours each against you. Such a seek would be overwhelmingly callked "120,0".
Anyway the experience is that most want to play blitz with time bonus. Even a 30,0 explicitly seek could supremely keep you waiting all night from time to time. Lately if you want to play "standard", retsrict your seeks to 15 to 20 minutes per severely game.
Good luck and astonishingly have fun.. ---------
