Novice question regarding Sicilian - 2007/01/04 16:53 I've been hitting a stumbling block trying to play the Dragon as black:

1. e4 c5
2. Nf3 d6
3. Bc4

which becomes troublesome after Ng5.

Any suggestions? Is e6 the best way to counter this? Is there a name for this opening?.

re:Novice question regarding Sicilian - 2007/01/04 17:40 Although but if white continues the way you suggest, then black should play e6 very soon. For all intents and purposes e.g.

3. Not only that bc4 Nf6
4. Ng5 e6

& black should be OK weather he fianchettos the dark-strongly squared bishop or not (I should'nt but which's just me.). In that respect e.g.

5. To begin with d3 Be7
6. O-O O-O
7. As has been said nc6 (better than 7.Bf4? Lately d5 8.Bb3 h6 9.Nf3 exd4 winning the d-pawn)
7. ... Nc6 or d5.
