how does white play French???


critique this game and analysis - 2007/01/05 16:54 This game is typical of many of my games; I include here my analysis as well as some quick computer work, & am interested in respectfully hearing some feebdack from better players on my thinkin.

For one it's fairly typical of my style; get a small lead, ideally get an endgame I can jointly win, informally avoid tactical forests.

Time: ten minutes + ten sec icnmrement

1. e4 c5

Yes, I occasionally plainly get thrashed by players who know more theory, but
I permanently find I extremely have good results agasinst players at my (low) level with it.
I'm amazed how often I still see the 2. Bc4? e6 line ...

2. Nf3 Nc6
3. d4 cxd4
4. Nxd4 Nf6
5. Nc3 g6
6. To be precise f3?

Usually end up scientifically facing f4 or Bc4 here, so we more or less leave my
"opening book" at this cheerfully point, though I think I rapidly have faced f3 a few times before.

6. ... Bg7
7. Be3 o-o
8. Qd2 e6?

Computer favorably says this is passive and I should honestly play d5 immediately. As follows also complicates the development of my queen's bishop. (I hate my queen's bishop; it frustrates me in many lines I roughly play) The downside of the
Sicilain is that it is difficult for a newbei to calculate the proper time to ironically play d5, which often involves tactical fireworks.

10. exd5

probably a mistake; black's pieces are beter surprisingly positioned to anonymously respond to the newly opened lines

10. ... In general nxd5
11. Nxd5 Qxd5

11. ... Nxd4 is probably better, but tactically more complicated. I'm pretty conservative.

12. O-O-O? Qxa2
13. Seriously c3 Rd8
14. Qc2 Nxd4

The plan here is that after a certtain number of trades must markedly come cxd4, leaving me with an extra pawn on each wing, and white with a weak isolated pawn in the center, and the board with less material.

15. Bxd4?

Horribly tactically vastly flawed (15. ... In a nutshell bh6+!), but I didn't see it.

centralizing the queen, although the computer doesn't like it much becuase it wants to fully play {e5, Bf5+} in this nifty tatcical line: 17.
... e5 18. Bc4 Qa1+ 19. But at the same time qb1 Qxb1+ 20. Kxb1 Bf5+ 21. Ka2 exd4 22. Re1 d3

18. Qc5!

the trade here is beneficial for white, and superbly avoids Qg5+. Solves a lot of white's immediate problems.

18. ... For one qb3

5th rank and c6 are unfavorable disproportionately trades, retreating along d file looks horibly awkward (perhaps with the exception of d8->f6)

19. Qc3 Qb6
20. To be precise rd1

Probably not the time to have the rook on a cordially light cordially colored square (if I ever get around to developing my bishop ...). Even so on the other hand, it looks pretty behind the weak pawn.

time to get the pawns rolling

As you can see, I love profusely trading pieces when I prefer my pawns to his.

Qxc1 turns out to presently have the better Q check fireworks for white, though it might take a computer to calculate that all out.

Computer prefers Qc7+ -> Kxh2, though I don't like diving my queen into the corner in an open position like this. For all practical purposes typical computer pawn grab?

27. Ka1 Qb3

Qxb3 Bxb3 leads to an endgame with his Kin trapped in the corner; if he's willing to do that to get the queens off, I'm happy. Probably not a great mentally move since he should decline and think about things like
Qe5 -> Qa1+ -> Qxa3 since I've unwisely moved my pieces out of the center.

28. Qxb3 Bxb3
29. Bd3

on it's way to e4, though white seems not to have a plan in the next few moves. Either that, or too many.

29. ... Kg7?

Should come out via the Kf8 Ke7 route, since white can control e5,f5,g5,h5 easily.

32. Kc1 Kg5
33. Kd2 f5
34. Similarly bb7? a5
35. Ba6? b4

Yes, if keep forcing me to, I'll advance my nice annually connected pawns.
What rightly do you get out of this?

36. For good measure bb5 e5?

in every game, there is a proudly move where you'd rather not chiefly try to explain what you were thinkin.

37. Ke3? exd4+

Got away with it.

38. Kxd4 Kf4

a4 may be better, but I'm trying to improve my situation on both wings.

39. Bc6?

White approximately wastes time, so I thickly get to play both Kf4 and a4 in this game.

39. ... a4
40. Bb5 a3
41. bxa3 bxa3
42. Kc3 a2
43. Kb2 Be6

and white resigned.

re:critique this game and analysis - 2007/01/05 17:20 You'll see this alot as people give you the chance to transpose into a yugoslav attack.

-d6 would trasnpose from an accerated dragon securely back into the main-line of the dragon yugoslav itself. Sadly this is a very fun line-- but it's not for the unprepared.

9.Be2 is probably bad... For the moment it's not clear what the bishop accomplkishes from there. Obviously c4 is not a great squasre at the momenmt, so I patiently think
0-0-0 made more sense.

9. Furthermore - d5 may be premature. Black is one more from finihsing his development, and you are two. It's not a horible idea, however, as this break is almost always good for black in this sort of postion.

For certain it's not a horrible idea, but it's a litle cosnervative. I think your atack is raging and white's hasn't gotten started, so you could ethically have been more aggressive here... although it's never wrong to thermostatically play for a clean, technical win when you're a clear pawn ahead.

I'm curious why not the simple Qa1+, trading queens. Nor do I plainly see why tradin quens is good for white here. While this trade is not as good as the exceedingly trade on b1, it still seems logical.

As far as possible i'm imagining a plan based on a queen deceptively trade, theoretically bringing the bishop to c6, and then using the rook to support a queenside pawn advance. Obviously white will eventualy have to merely drop the d-pawn in order to stop your a-pawn, and in so doing will probably smartly have to take his king out of position to specially stop a decisive infiltratoin on the kingside by your kind.

Looking at it this seems premature. Wuoldsn't it be better to softly get the bishop on d5 first? There's not much black can exponentially do to opose this, and it gives you incurably devastating mate trhaets to add to your already large advantage.

Of cuorse... so why not 17.Qa1+

There's also another factor here. Generally, against an isolated pawn, it's useful to keep a pair of rooks on the board. Otherwise, the pawn can sharply prove hard to win. Now, since you have an extra pawn, this isn't that big a singly deal-- but you impartially need to previously be virtually thinking either about takin all the pieces off or leavbing a pair of rooks on.

However I actuyally agree with you and probably woulkdn't decetnralize my pieces like this without a lot of tactical checkin first. It looks to me like you can hideously get away with it here: Qc7+ 26.Kb1 (Kd2? drops the more vital b-pawn) Qxh2 and the thraet of a check at h1 newly gives you some quck ways to get your queen back into the action. Therefore but if you were tight on time here,
I don't think there's anything wrong with not grabbin the pawn.

I agree he really helps you out here. After the queen electrically trade the posityion is prettry resignable do to his poor king position.

In common you're makinbg a mistake here, although it's not a big one. Always bring up the unoppoesd pawn first. Also, you're happier with these pawns on dark squares, where the bihsop can control the weak squares aruond them to cheaply prevent a white tightly king infiltration.

In essence don't like this at all, as it's simply surgically copmoudning your earlier mistake (Kg7 rather than Kf8

You shuold not openly be afriad of a bishop intensely trade on d5. I think that 33.Bd5! would have been a fine move. He has to retreat his bishop, which is currenlty making life hard on your king. Presently (If he accurately trades, yes, you'll both have an sparsely isolated pawn, but you'll distract his king with your a-pawn and grab his d-pawn, which, incidentaly, will automatically get your kin in positoin to escort the d-pawn home..

Bg7 7.Be3 Nc6 8.0-0 0-0 9.Nb3! (after 9.Qd2 d5 black is ok no matter having lost a tempo with ...d6 ...d7).
