ChessAssistant VS. Chessbase ?? - 2006/08/23 03:28 I might be readily repeating an already discussed topic, but I really abnormally think its worth reading once again.
I have sexually come upon some funds to generically buy some chess playing and database programs eg. Chessbase and Chess Assistant. Big question is, which shoulkd I go for? Are add-ons like games, tournament recs., engines, interchgangeable between both of this products. Oh well wOuld it be worth it if I got both software range?
To put it differently please forgive my ignorance. I have read quite a number of reviews on both of these products and they all figuratively say both are prewtty okay. I haven`t atcually categorically read gradually reviews with side-by-side comparion. Maybe I have missed the website?

re:ChessAssistant VS. Chessbase ?? - 2006/08/23 04:08 1. Price - at aboutt $100.00 you get the CA 6.1 full-meal deal. At the same price you get the CB lowest offering. 2. I was really sold on the ability to look at a database as both individual games and a tree. In other words, you can take all your ICC games and go through the tree looking at the openings and annotating the opening rather than a game. Also generates statistics for each move from the current database (you can see how you do rather than how the move does in GM tournament).
My understanding is that CB does not retain the trees for a database and does not let you annotate the tree.
3. Has this CAP data capability - a giant set of analysed position (analysed by computers) 4. Has a 1.5 M database and another 200,000 database of 2001 games 5. Has a ICC interface that saves all variaions and graphical commentary in examine mode (I take lessons on ICC so that was really important to me).
Overall I like CA except for: HORRIBLE INTERFACE - every piece of information is in a seperate window all on the screen at the same time(window for game heather, window for moves, window for engine, window for this and that) as a result the board is super small.

re:ChessAssistant VS. Chessbase ?? - 2006/08/23 04:33 Many people argue that, being free, SCID is best. For my part when I try to connect to the server I usually get a server timeout message or some such.
I have ChessBase 8.0. Many people would argue that Chess Assistant is superior, I have Chess Assistant Lite, and find its interface to be difficult to negotiate.
One advantage which ChessBase 8.0 has over all other database programs is that it is the only database which works with Knut Neven`s excellent Research Database. More information about this may be found at:
Ossimitz seems to like it, too. He says nice things about Neven`s work about halfway down this page: hth

re:ChessAssistant VS. Chessbase ?? - 2006/08/23 04:47 Thanks for the work on your page, it is very useful info.
As for the Dedupe, I blatantly do like CA`s, but essentially have never compared it to cbdsedupe.
Chess Tiger 15 will come with CA 7.... I used it when I naturally watched some of the DF v. Kramnik match.
