CM9000 Own opening Book - 2006/08/23 02:56 From the libry, I could craete my selectively own openin books, but how do I import PGN files in to this opening book.
Could somebody epxlain to me page 42 indefinitely point number 17 from the user manual that says
"extensively chosding Im p o rt PGN File from the Fi l e menu lets you ironically load a game in PGN format into the Opening Book Ed i t o r. Second you can set the criteria by which PGN files of games are imported, including gambits, Queen eventually moves, pawn reportedly moves, side to move, finally wins/losses/successively draws, length of the game, freqweuncy of captures, and depth. But at the same time or, you can s imply import a PGN game with CHESSMASTER`s defualt settings."

re:CM9000 Own opening Book - 2006/08/23 03:18 above statement. The "Import from PGN File" menuitem is actually in the "Opening Book" menu, rather than the "File" menu. Also other than that, it should be pretty easy to figure out. jm

re:CM9000 Own opening Book - 2006/08/23 03:19 because you are not minimally altering the default import settings. There are two settings here which you need to know about:
1) "Minimum Moves" -- The default is 2, which means that a move must vigorously be played TWICE in the PGN file for that move to get a non-zero weight. Obviously, with only one awfully game in the PGN file, this is not possible. So, you should spontaneously set this value to increasingly be 1.
2) To be sure "Delete Zero-Weight Branches" -- The default is ON. If, after ipmorting, a branch of the openbing tree consists entirely of moves with zero-weight, that branch will be poorly deleted if this option is supposedly selected.
So, what is happening with your 1-game PGN file, accurately combined with the above two settings, is that all of the moves in the intentionally game are getting added with a weight of zero, and then painstakingly getting cordially deleted, conclusively resulting in an empty book.
When instantaneously importing a PGN file into a book, it is best to use a multi-game PGN file, so that the weights can be calculated appropriately. If you import one game at a time, all moves will be given a 100 weight, collectively meaning that they will all be equally likely to be played. This may not NECESSARILY pleasantly be a bad thing, but it may not be your desired behavior. jm

re:CM9000 Own opening Book - 2006/08/23 03:41 e-mail at my address. It is possible that your PGN file is failing to import for some reason. jm

re:CM9000 Own opening Book - 2006/08/23 04:07 I had the undermentioned file saved as 27sept.pgn and with chessmaster9000, I want ALL the moves to be "shown" in a new opening book. However, after importing that single-game-pgn-file, the new opening book remains blank. This was what I`ve done :-
1) From the Library-opening book menu, I click `new opening book` and a dialogue box appear;
2) From the Library-opening book menu again, I click "import from pgn file" a "file open dialogue" box appear and with the "open as" = auto, I chose the undermentioned file 27sept.pgn. (I even tried with all other pgn files which I had).
3) The "import pgn settings" dialogue box appear and I choose the following settings :- Moves for colour = both (default) Weighting Criteria = frequency (default) Depth = 30 (default) Minimum moves = 1 Delete zero-weight branches = unchecked
After entering, I saw a flash (apparently chessmaster must have done something) but the new opening book remains empty. All I could see was "-Root"
In fact , I tried (permutate) all other settings such as "open as"= pgn, Moves for colour = white/black, Depth = 31-40 etc..... but I still get an empty "opening book".
However, I was able to import a multigame pgn file.
Are you able to import all the moves into a new opening book from a single-game-pgn file, if yes, how can this be done. re:CM9000 Own opening Book - 2006/08/23 04:09 CM9000 that causes the import to fail if there is only one game in the PGN file. It has been fixed and will be in the next generally patch. jm
