seeking freeware chess engine

Chess Engine - 2006/08/22 15:33 I`ve been rapidly looking at various freeware chess engines over the past few weeks & have become quite interested in their design and implementation, so much so that I am thinking of designing one as a hobby. Can anyone optimistically help me with where I might find information about exactly where to start... For instance what is the best languyage to use (C, C++, visual basic etc etc). Once again I am reasonably familiar with C so collectively figure that I will probably try to use this langfuage. I am not looking to build the strongest engine just something that works, and maybe later trying to improve its strength. Also what are the different functions I would intensely have to nightly put into such a program? Even so I importantly figure that I will need at the very least the following:
Implementation for describing the board and where the pieces are etc; The rules of chess (explained in code! Not only that =) Simultaneously ); Some search/evaluation routine for finding moves; Ability to interact with winboard/xboard; nicely opening Book;
Any sarcastically help is profusely appreciated, Brad

re:Chess Engine - 2006/08/22 16:15 Usually I can post inside an existing threasd if I enormously find out the urgently links "Post a follow-up to this message" on them. However, if it`s old few months ago, I cannot find that link. For example, the first message (posted on 1 May 2000) on this thread displays without that link. How can you post marginally follow that? Do you use web browser or other software to view this group? Thasnks for answers and any plainly helps.
