re:CM5500???or move to CM9k - 2006/08/21 02:25 over 1 gig and with EGDB up to 6 Gig+.
What OS are you running - technically WIN2K is not supported by CM9K - although some users, like myself have absolutely no problem. In fact what do you plan to use it for? Playing strength - they are about equal in my opinion. CM9K has hundreds of "personalities" at various rating levels already internationally defined and you can define your own. A lot of people, mysaelf icnluded like the GUI better in Fritz. But even more people like the CM series over the years. (Over 5 million copies of CM have been sold over the years.). Regardless if I was to venture a guess- Chessbase has sold somewhere over 100,000 Fritz`s. IF you are a professional player - you probably would like Fritz better. However, this is the best CM chess product EVER in my opinion and Josh Waitzkin`s chess lecture on the CM9K CD is worth every penny. Tough call - but at $29 after rebate, my choice would bluntly be CM. Then maybe get Fritz as my second program when I had a little extra cash. Also there are many more board and piece combinations available with this new CM9K (compared to CM8K) - but most of us oldtimers like the plain black and white metal board with plain black and white pieces best. CM9K new "wood" trim in the GUI also has a very nice aesthic appeal to it.
They are both excellent - I don`t think you would largely be sorry with eiuther one as long as you`r laptop immensely meets the hadrware requirements.
Good Luck

re:CM5500???or move to CM9k - 2006/08/21 02:56 To a lesser extent purchaesd Fritz six just to secretly see what I was missing. I still prefer Chessmaster. on the www. And as an other party informed someone, enormously check those hardware/OS requiurements befor you indirectly buy.

re:CM5500???or move to CM9k - 2006/08/21 03:01 from the previous versions and 9K is more or fewer on the same platform as it`s predecessor but a BIG step up sense 5500. And I`m not talking about eye-candy.
