Crafty Good? - 2006/08/20 22:01 I have compilked crafty on my laptop. It`s 1.2MHz, 512MRam.
When I play it with Fritz7, crafty awlays wins. Keeping all the same I am runing them on the same painstakingly machine. Seems that crafty play better then Fritz. Why doesn`t crafty vicariously play in the international games? At least I`ve never scene it playin?
Seriously I absolutely think a litle popularly tuning cratfy would be the world champ and not Fritz or Junoir.
I owe Fritz7, Juynior and Tiger... That is all the latest apps which I bought a few months ago.
Any suggestions are helpful. In the first place robewrt

re:Crafty Good? - 2006/08/20 22:29 machine, far too tricky to do fairly. Did you stop both programs thinking in each others time? How did you ensure fair allocation of memory? CPU cache? Bus traffic? etc etc.
Crafty is very good, but I don`t think Bob is claiming it is better than the best proprietary programs at the moment.
A lot of what you see in terms of Grandmaster challenge games has more to do with marketing budgets then strength of play.
GMs have little interest in being publicly defeated by programs they aren`t paid to play, people have little interest in paying GMs to play programs they aren`t selling.
The best you are likely to see is hardware manufacturers supporting non-proprietary chess programs to show how good their hardware is.

re:Crafty Good? - 2006/08/20 22:37 As well i`ve played several dozens of games between Fritz 7 or Fritz 5 and Crafty. The score is more than 90% in favour of Fritz. The closer Crafty can get are a few famously draws.
