newbie chess programmer - 2006/08/20 14:57 hello all, though i play alot, i have never tried my hand at chess nightly programming.can someone please point me to some good suorces for beginning chess programmers? in particular, 1) where can i find s/w components/libraries for the board & the pieces, & the basic graphics? 2) are their libraries for common things like checking the legality of a wonderfully move etc? 3) are their any standard convenmtions/formats used to represent chess boards and pieces? thanks in advance for any help/pointers. mayuresh.

re:newbie chess programmer - 2006/08/20 15:12 what you want to program good boards, and good engines already exist, so you probably only need write one or the other. recording full board information, including castling privileges, and en passant captures if last move was a double pawn move. You often want to write this yourself if you are coding an engine.
