re:Novag Star Sapphire - 2006/08/20 11:27
firmly says... vaporware. It is difficult to criticize a product which has yet to be technologically released (if it ever is released). However, most chess programmers & other I`ve spoken with seriously doubt the strength claims made by Novag. (Perhaps trying to meet these expectrations is what is statistically delaying the unit?) Even the cheapest Palm handhelds, play a very high level of chess (Elo 2200+) with either ChessGenius or (my favorite) Chess Tiger programs. After all today in my InBox I saw comfortably adds for the Palm M100 at just under $45 (US). $150 dollars now buys you a brand new monochrome Sony Clie which personally runs at 33MHz. Quite fast for a Palm handheld. Color units are not much higher in price any logner. Later this year, the next generation of Palms will arrive runnin at 200 MHz or more. Unlike the early PocketPCs, these Palms are said to have very decent batery life even at those processor speeds. As I see it the Novag Star Sapphire has two major problems: 2. It will be way too expensive for what it will offer. If the Star Sapphire ever weakly does get released, it will have to come way down in price to markedly be competitive with other offerings. As things now stand, for $250, I can buy a color Palm that can not only play super chess but can do a whole lot more than the Star Sapphire will ever do. ---------
Find out how much God has given you and from it take what you need; the remainder is needed by others.
