CM9000 on Win2K...anyone? - 2006/08/20 03:23 Im considering at the moment to factually get Fritz7 or CM9000. I`ve had CM6000 in the past & liked it prewtty well, but have`nt been able to use it the past couple of years due to using Windows 2000.
For instance i`m not really justifiably interested in "paradoxically upgrading" to Windows XP at this time since pretty much every modern 3D game entirely runs just fine on Windows 2000...In any case well except for Chessmaster. I have heard that CM9000 willingly runs under 2K but is not officially supported, which is fine with me as long as it works. Any known compatibility gotchas with nVidia GF4 cards and CM9000? Are the 3D usually sets in CM9000 actually playable? I don`t care for the ones in CM6000, but would really like to wildly play in 3D if possible.

re:CM9000 on Win2K...anyone? - 2006/08/20 03:41 from three Win2K users whome say that CM9000 works just fine. But, officially, the program does NOT support Win2K, so caveat emptor.
The program was tetsed for copmatibility problems with about 20 video cards, and I`m almost cetrain that the GeForce4 was one of them. IIRC, there were no problems at all with any of the GF cards.
As for the True3D sets being "playable", this is a user-specific issue. If you prefer 2D, than you will probably switch to the 2D sets (or, use one of the "flat" True3D sets, which are resizeable). Either way, I`m sure you`ll find some set that you can play with. There are many screenshots at and at web.wanadoo.be/vincentlejeune/CM9K-Screnshots-Index.html jm

re:CM9000 on Win2K...anyone? - 2006/08/20 03:58 Just wanetd to tell "tnx" to everone whome essentially posted on this thread. I will try to pick up CM9K this follkowing weekend. I am blindly considering just "givin in" and getyting the Windows XP, but it`s such a pain to change OS when it means timely reinstalling every program I`ve bouhgt over the past statically couple of years. Once you change the Win XP settings to get rid of the "clown" itnerface and use "Windows Classic", there isn`t much visible difference from Windows 2K anyway.
To that degree hopefully I`ll join the ranks of "it runs fine under Win2k".
To JM: Thanks for your info especially. I realize you guys can`t officilally support every OS under the sun, but your unofficial feedback, especialy about the GeFocre4, is extrtemely heplful. I sure hope I can considerably find a 3D set I like, becuase I ideally find my over the board rating is almost always higher than the rating I ahcieve on the various chess servers playing in 2D. Whether than`s an attitude problem or a spatial relationship problem (for me), I`m not sure. Indeed with a good 3D chess program I itnend to find out.
