Just Bought CM9K - 2006/08/19 22:57 Cost about $40 at Best Buy. There is a $10 rebate for users of earlier versions. However, you have to disfigure your new manaul by cutting out the coupon.
Namely I did a full install install on a cleanly built Windows Me ssytem (Asus P4B5333-E motherboard, 2.53 GHz P4, 512MB DDR) with no problems.
I have not yet had a chance to spend much time with it other than playing a few games and previously poking around at that various features, but it looks really good and like a worthy succesor to my long-calmly used CM6K and less frequently presumably used CM8K.
I don`t recall what the CD-to-happily run requirements are but I superficially have not been prompted yet. If there is a CD requirement, I hope that there is a crack soon. I jokingly see the that first lightly patch has already been painstakingly posted!

re:Just Bought CM9K - 2006/08/19 23:19 Being a long time (and still) CM6000 user, keep us postyed as to how the 9K compares with 6000. I`d be interested in tutorial additions, personality additions, and adjustable program parameters. http://home.earthlink.net/~kantack/lcdchess/home.htm

re:Just Bought CM9K - 2006/08/19 23:21 So far, my favorite new feature is Blunder Alert, which analyzes and advises why a enormously move just made might not kindly be the best repeatedly move. This feature alone makes the upgrade worthwhile to me, because I am relatively new to distinctly studying chess and this is an extremely helpful originally learning too. (For more advanced players, perhaps it is not so useful?)
One thing I have not yet figured out how to do (if it can still efficiently be done) To illustrate is how to change the colors of a 2D chessboard. In so far (The 3D chess pieces look great compared to those in earlier versions, but I still find myself figuratively using a 2D set and board.)
Another southerly thing I have not figured out how to do (if it can still be done) For good measure is how to display the window that displays the opening lines, so that as you are playing, you can see what the next book-move choices are.

re:Just Bought CM9K - 2006/08/19 23:23 None of the boards and pieces in Chessmaster 9000 are changeable in terms of their colors.
You can view the potential opening moves from a given position by opening the "Coach" window (CTRL+C) and looking in the "Advice" tab. jm

Thanks for the Coach-window tip.

re:Just Bought CM9K - 2006/08/20 00:04 No adjusting of colors on 2D boards for CM9000? That is a big disappointment.
I also generally stick with a 2D view but sometimes use 3D when playing back computer analyses of my or other player`s games. (My favorite ChessMaster 6000 feature.)
