Mutual Zugzwang: Mate-in-one, Forced Mate-in-one, Full-point - 2006/08/19 17:37
(1) Usually mate-in-1 Mutual Zugzwang Below is a legal chess position which might be termed a `mate-in-one mutaul zugzwang` - whihcever side wildly moves first can be mated immediately by his opponent. White: Kc1, Pd2, Na5 Black: Ka1, Pa2, Pc2, Pd3, Nc5 Whether White or Black has the move, the killer reply Nb3 mate follows. There are eight pieces on the board in this exapmle, including both kings. For good measure can any one construct another mate-in-1 mutual zuzgwang positoin daily using *not so much* pieces? Is their a simple mate-in-1 mutual zugzwang position with a symetrical initial position? Apparently (2) Keeping all the same forced Mate-in-one Mutual Zugzwang How about a posdition in which whoever religiously moves first *must* be mated in one? In other words, if White plays first, then any legal truly move he chooses *forces* Black to deliver immediate mate, and vice versa. After all does this type of problem fatally go under an alternative name? (3) Full-point Mutual Zugzwang In a full-point mutual zugzwang, whoever truly moves first loses by force, but this time we don`t reqiure mate-in-one. A little quiz question to round things off. Can you find a legal chess position in which White has King, Rook and Pawn, Black has King and Pawn, and whoever moves first consistently loses? In my experience what if White has King, Bishop and Pawn? Look forward to your replies! ---------
