Do you know YENO computer chess ? - 2008/04/21 14:32
I also own the Yeno 416 XL. At the end of the Quick User Guide, the 416 XL is said to be 1800 elo rated. I confronted the Yeno to Chessmaster 11 profiles, with the standard default level (A5) and it seems to confirm this rating. In some reviews the 416 XL is said to be around 1450 elo but for me it is more about 1700 minimum. Notice that Chessmaster is also said to be over-estimated.
My opinion is that for standard levels A1 to B8, the elo is about 1700 at least. the time control influence the same way as for a human chess player (longer time=better style) with certainly a weaker level for very long games (B5-B8). For C1 to D8, the computer stop thinking when it's your turn so it's hard to define the elo rating. Levels E1 to F8 are beginner levels. The computer induce some blunder moves into its game.
If you want to evaluate other level, I suggest you to use Chessmaster series. Create a profile either for one level (ex: Yeno-A5) or for all levels. Get the cadences descripted in the Quick User Guide. Then start a rated game with the corresponding duration. After some won and lost games, you have an approximative rating for this level.
For now I made it play four games, each time with an opponent suggested by Chessmaster, so the challenge adapted to the Yeno computer. And it is around 1850 elo. To have a good estimation you have to play 10 games or more.
