where can I find PGN documentation? - 2007/09/17 02:21
If you want it for a web pgn-viewer applet, ASP or whatever, you might want to learn how Montreux does it (yes, after 5 silent years, it's back! http://jbfsoftware.com/montreux/monfeatures.html In that applet, most things are configurable by user, even the PGN nag file (you may translate it, change all items, etc. which is fantastic, because the original file seems written for real PGN = Poor subNormal Guys) I think the big guys from CB met with those from Palview Pages (Templeton, Bentzen) and change a thing or two to allow for "void moves", etc. Beware to change the nags used by CB (unless you do the program for your own use only), because that's the most popular way to generate PGN. They are not many. CB has added a few tags in the PGN header too; I guess these are optional, nothing is an absolute standard (of course, that's why you need a parser ) and there won't be any earthquake if you rewrite the whole thing . Sorry I can't help you directly like "here it is your documentation" but if don't find it, these lines may be helpful. On top of it, if you make a proper viewer, charged with extras (otherwise it's not worth it as they are quite a lot) then I may help you with a nice design for your chess board, the way I did it for J.P. Hendriks, original fonts, etc.
