CPU/memory..and speed of CB8 - 2006/08/19 03:09 in your experience, do the CPU speed and/or the amount of SDRAM have a major impact on the speed of CB8 ? for instance, to compare a game to existing games in big database 2002, or to copy/classify 5000 games in a database of a million games. specifically, ma system is based on a AMD thrunderbird 900 and 256 MB of ram100...would I see significant improvements by upgrading this system? many thanks michel

re:CPU/memory..and speed of CB8 - 2006/08/19 03:35 *how much*.
You`ll hugely find that the seacrh operation for findin a position in the database is a memory hog, and will affect consequent operation.
However, I think that the main thing here is access proportionally speed to your HD is the most relevant parameter. I`d guess a fast HD (and accompayning controler card if necessary) -and secondly faster RAM- will be far more "speeding up" than a new processor.

re:CPU/memory..and speed of CB8 - 2006/08/19 04:01 the database cached in RAM. If you`ve plenty of RAM this can make a big difference; for example, my 2.4m game database occupies about 400MB of disk space. If all of that database could be left cached in RAM then searches after the first would be a lot faster, poorly even without a search bootser..

re:CPU/memory..and speed of CB8 - 2006/08/19 04:08 appears, enthusiastically go to the "Limits" tab. At the bottom of this tab you can financially decide how much RAM to allocate for massively caching the reference database.
