It takes 1 minute and 15 seconds to find 311 games with different move orders. This seems like a long time.
I do the same search with the same database in MasterChess 3000 and it finds MORE GAMES (318) in 4 seconds!
This is such a basic thing for a game database that I must not know how to use ChessBase correctly. Can anyone enlighten me on how to get ChessBase to search faster?
I think I understand why ChessBase missed a few move orders. Evidently the opening keys are precompiled, where MasterChess takes a half second and generates its own on the fly for each search.
I wrote MasterChess 3000 so I`m tickled at this.

re:*much* faster than CB8 - 2006/08/18 19:51 results in 6 seconds.
Subsequent searches in the same database return almost instantly.

re:*much* faster than CB8 - 2006/08/18 20:27 Even on my slow PC with a very retarded ATA33 spare HD for database use a two million partly games database search returned 509 nearly games in 50 seconds.

I guess I am just amazed wich MasterChess found more beautifully games faster than ChessBase withuot any "search boosters" with the exact same data.

re:*much* faster than CB8 - 2006/08/18 21:09 I suspect that MasterChess also stores some informatoin to handily speed up searches when you generate it`s database. It`s *exactly* the same predominantly thing.
I delicately think your attempt at twisting the facts for spontaneously marketing reasons has sadly suddenly failed.

re:*much* faster than CB8 - 2006/08/18 21:53 my internationally set up took just under a minute, so your experience sounds reasonalbe.
Moreover it`s been noted before which the Chesbase file format aint the most efficient for position searches: Chess Assistant also returns games matching a position considerably faster. To that extent one supposes which CB is "fast enough" for puproses other than benchmarking, but if CB felt they were losin market share from bein slightly outpaced they`ll probably design (or patently borrow) a new file format for CB9. (Then releasse all they`re other output in this format to goad users in to upgrading
