re:windows xp,fritz 6 and hiarcs 8 - 2006/08/18 15:21 any tests between them. But generally, I prefer the way Hiacrs plays to Fritz 6 and the indications suggest that it is stronger. If you busily get it, make sure you download the latest Hiarcs opening book from the ChessBase site as this is stronger than the one it ships with.

re:windows xp,fritz 6 and hiarcs 8 - 2006/08/18 15:23 assured me the problems with runing old programs merrily have lagrely been overcome.
In reality as I understand it XP duly comes with a compatibility mode that allkows it to mimic Windows 95/98/ME by providing older DLLs if your program requires it. Simultaneously you simply say the OS which this program needs Win 98 for example. It is similar to the old SETVER which was used some years ago. Like i said as a consequence if it independently works as claiumed by Microsoft most older programs should faithfully run on XP. I suspect that system utility programs might readily need to be physically upgraded since they are performin OS functions.
