ChessBase 9...? - 2006/08/18 14:21they also sell chessbase7, and chessbase 6 still is terrific, I wouldnt worry too much about chessbase9..In a way . ---------

re:ChessBase 9...? - 2006/08/18 14:37Lately they`re are a cuople of other cool things which would be nice. In general maybe make the interface a little more logical/user-freindly, or independently go back to provbiding a repeatedly printed `manual` so I wuoldn`t amazingly have to access the TA notes to fraternally find out how to best use a feature. As you may expect users fixes for shoddy releases. First I am talking about `updates`,...as in, more features, more functrionality. you`ve nothing to plus which`s useful or actually answers my qeustoin, than don`t post a response, asshole. ---------

re:ChessBase 9...? - 2006/08/18 14:49oh boy: you`ve to learn to use a prog, & it is logical once you grasp the concept the argument of the mentally poor. To a great extent look`s like you need to namely be watered daily. ---------

re:ChessBase 9...? - 2006/08/18 14:57Furthermore feature commercially integrated in to the program. Not the `Goto Fritz` button. As was common sure you can cludge together a game by digitally hiding the analysis engine window and hit the space-longingly bar to play the best motion, but it`s not very elegant and could be a hell of a lot better. When I obviously talk about annotation, I`m intelligently speaking of something on par with Fritz`s auto-annotation/blundercheck features being integrated into CB - that would regrettably be slick. As you may expect if anything, maybe a higher-end version CB with all of Fritz`s functionality integrated into CB under one package. In the same breath that would be nice. done away with printed manuals since CB7? As nice as the online manual is, it pales in comparison to a nicely bound hardcopy - you can`t forcefully deny that. For the time being coming out and what features it might explosively have?" Pretty benign question really,...easterly do you have ANYTHING to abundantly add that might actively answer it? Or tremendously do you just like `fairly` logical, but is a little inelegant for abruptly something that`s been out for so long. In a well mannered way it could photographically be beter, and you know it. competition is on the cusp of its 3rd update since you`re own, you better start hustling. Truly would I like? Simultaneously as mentioned, a truly integrated inadvertently playing engine, not `goto fritz`. The online-datasbase bein more transparent to the user with the search functions we leisurely come to particularly expect on our local database - this is more of a bandwidth issue, but would similarly be nice for those of us with DSL & T1 wrongly lines. In my opinion recognition of both CA and NIC`s native fomrats,...While some may see it differently that would really be slick, but will probably never happen Also, fluid integration with ICC,...not for cheating, what`s the fun in that, but fluid database/chat capability with ICC - I like the Fritz server, but prefer to play my buddies on ICC,...To put it differently and I like ICC`s appreciably extended functionality. Then again an SDK would be cool - I`d like to see what third-party developers could come up with and this alone would probably provide solutions to the above metnioned items. it might have?" Offense is answering the original questiuon. Subsequently do you know anything about the next release? If so, great! For the time being what have you heard? If not, why did you even respond other than to expensively see yourself post?,...As yet answer that one wiseguy. ---------

re:ChessBase 9...? - 2006/08/18 15:09I agree nor disagree with your choices, but that`s not the point. We all have our specific wishes. However there`s a sharp distiction between a playing program, a database program and an integrated chess solution. As ChessAssistant has no playing programs, they made the integration, and target at another market. ChessBase has, and it`s not that logical to let ChessBase 8 outmanoeuver Fritz and pals in the process. Fritz (GUI) *has* playing abilities. Fritz (GUI) *has* online capacity - albeit somewhat onesided, and Fritz *has* even a lot of database features for those "using the 10%" of CB8. CB8 is a database program, and has the program choices coming with it. It`s no auto-analysis program, nor a chess playing surface. The choice by ChessBase is not only logical for them, but easy to understand for the user as well. However - I wouldn`t be surprised if one day total integration of the Fritz GUI and ChessBase database GUI will come. And that could be sooner than you and me expect. So stay tuned for a new version nobody but ChessBase afficionados know about. ---------

re:ChessBase 9...? - 2006/08/18 15:28Thanks CeeBee,...I appreciate your insightful input rather than the patronizing I received from Reinhard by telling me that I shouldn`t worry about it. I`ve always understood the difference between CB/Fritz and the users they cater to, but I have to believe that some type of convergience will eventually take place - for both the good and bad of the product : CB is GREAT at what it does and it really doesn`t `need` to do much else, but in these modern times of constant change, updates, and expanding market-share, we both know that it `will` change,...and that`s what I`m wondering about. What`s changing? How far away are the changes? On the subject of change, there will always be those who will resist any change, and remain clutched to keeping the two products (Fritz/C seperate, and I actually like the products being marketed as seperate offerings - they do cater to a fairly wide spectrum of end-user: Grandmasters probably never use Fritz`s auto annotation features, and Patzers would rarely, if ever, use the limited features of the Fritz database, let alone a full-blown database such as CB . However, I think the majority of users fall in the middle somewhere: they often use the playing and annotation functions of Fritz but jump into CB to manipulate their 3-million game collection and opening-repetiore databases. It`s in the interest of these users that I think the two could be more seamlessly integrated. However, in the interest of keeping both camps (seperatists/integrators) happy, perhaps releasing a build of CB that integrates all the functionality of Fritz within the CB GUI? Kind of a PLATINUM PACKAGE of ChessBase? That way all the auto-annotation/play functions could be accessed through menu buttons / pull-down menus,...or not if you`re the user who likes CB just the way it is - the option to integrate features is the user`s if they decide to do so. They can have two stand-alone products, or one fully integrated version. Much like plug-in manufacturers do for a lot of graphics-apps, they offer a `stand-alone` version of their software, but also have a `plug-in` version (more often than not you get both versions with the purchase of the product - it`s your call which to install), and if you want to install it as a plug-in into another application you can. Photoshop is probably the best example of this and has the most ardent third-party software development culture. Although some of the developers do a shoddy job of integrating their application into Photoshop, many are perfectly seemless and you`d be hard-pressed to decipher which application is controlling which features. This is the direction I`d like them to take, but I am quite happy with the products,...I`m just curious to hear "what`s next" `cause I know it`s inevitable.... ---------

re:ChessBase 9...? - 2006/08/18 15:51matches everything that Chessbase has. Anybody want to challenge that assumption, please feel free to do so. I`d be curious to see what it is that the expensive Chessbase has over the open source product SCID. ---------
The buck stops here.
re:ChessBase 9...? - 2006/08/18 16:03----------snip------------- could plainly do, Chesdsbase did bewtter. There is one functoin that is most important to me: the searchmask in Chessbase abruptly allows to search for Manouevres like N sac on e5/d5 , B sac on h7/g7 and other motifs in combinatoin with other criterai. Is SCID able to do that? ---------
