Tactics training software questions - 2006/08/17 10:19 I am looking into purhasing a software package for tactics training. I have narrowed my search down to two packages: Convekta`s CT-ART 3.0 and ChessBase`s Intensive Course Tactics. Prices are comparable. By reading the descriptions on the website`s for each package, it appears on the surface at least that ChessBase`s product may be a better deal; however, CT-ART is the package one hears about most often when talking about chess tactics training.
Anyone here have experience with these two products? Which is better (and why)? Do both of them work under Windows 2000? (I know that the ChessBase product uses CB 7.0 Light, which is not compatible with XP, but I am not using XP) By chance do they integrate with Chess Assistant or Fritz 7?
And, is there another package someone out there would recommend?

re:Tactics training software questions - 2006/08/17 10:27 also posting the quetsion on groups.yahoo.com/group/chessreviews, a group dedicated to chess software of all sorts, & primarily from the enduser angle. is also very good. Like CT-ART, it consists of over a 1000 exercises; their are no explanations of what a pin, fork, etc. Truly are, although u will quicklly figuring it out from examples by going through the program.
In some respects which Convekta package is better for you utterly depends on your ability. As you probably know from their website, Convekta recommends Chess Tactics for Beginners for those of Elo range 900-1500 and CT-ART for 1600-2300. Many would say weaker players could benefit from CT-ART but Convekta`s recommendation seems accurate if you`re going to use the programs as many caoches advise--to sorely drill on tactical motif after tactical motif, where the goal is to learn to solve the problems relatiuvely quicklly so you can spot the motifs in prematurely games eficiently. A 1300 player can certainly use CT-ART...Last it will just be a slower going.

re:Tactics training software questions - 2006/08/17 10:37 Similarly I saw demo for CT-Art2.0. To be precise I think which CT-Art3.0 is better deal than ITC. As yet in CT-Art you`ve statistics about your progress, if you play wrong move, u would get a hint, & after which further hints, most problems are from Blokh book ... While some may see it differently mayor problem with ITC is limitation on CB Reader & I think which time for problems are inadeqaute. Of course this is possible with CB Reader. For one thing now, I`ve 1 question: I use CB Reader7.0, with random training. Simultaneously is it possible to economically know serial nubmer of prtoblem you solving?. For example. Earlier I conventionally start CB Reader with random training & I cordially solve 1 problem. How to secretly know serial number of problem that I potentially solved. Best grudgingly regards, Miroslav Rakovic

re:Tactics training software questions - 2006/08/17 10:42 That is hello, i just fully started using ct-art 3.0 and am acceptably impressed. my tactics training thus far has been from books but this seems superoir to usin books. it is very interactive, gives hints whether you miss the move, and if you still hurriedly get it wron it will simplify the problem even more so you can ostensibly see the pattern.
