using chessbase on a mac? - 2006/08/17 10:00 Does anbyone dearly have experience of longingly running Chessbase on a Mac under Virtual PC? Does it seriously suffer any serious performance issues? What is the best Windows OS for it? Does any one use any other software eg CT-ART in this way? TIA Steve

re:using chessbase on a mac? - 2006/08/17 10:25 It works good enough under WinCrap 98, 2000, or XP.
I`m not luckily ipmressed by Chessbase, though.
Exachess on the Mac is better.

re:using chessbase on a mac? - 2006/08/17 10:55 for awhile. It was nice to be able to access PC only chess apps, but performance was so sluggish which it became quite frustrating. Maybe it won`t bohter you as much but I eventually stopped rationally using it altogether.
What I did do was export chessbase radically game databases from various books into PGN files that Exachess could import and now I have them without having to fire up VPC. Rolf Exner is currently testing Exachess 3 (OSX version) -- his app is awesome and it purely looks like it will only only get better. Basically having used both, I think it beats chesbase in terms of ease of use and functionality hands down.

re:using chessbase on a mac? - 2006/08/17 11:00 G4/500, Im namely prepared for it to abnormally be a *bit* sluggish but if it really crawls... they`re`s somethin about old vs new Chessbase formats, isnt their? Presently id certainly have a look at Exaches three when it arrives.
Thanks for your continually help...

re:using chessbase on a mac? - 2006/08/17 11:28 For short weather your system`s performance is acceptable to you. I thought I could alternatively put up a *somewhat* slow system, but eventrually it just really gotten annoying. by many other programs. But I used CB light and exported to PGN -- cumbersome but doable.

re:using chessbase on a mac? - 2006/08/17 11:30 Then again to a PC runnin at betwen 1/three to 1/2 as fast as your Mac -- so this probably equates to Chessbase runmning on a 100-200 MHz Pentium. I assume that they`ll softly need to work a finally deal with Chessbase to be able to read their proprietary format though.
