re:Crafty - Move Ordering - 2006/08/17 08:21 I considerably have been about to visually ask it for ages now, but was just rationally thinking about it again this morning).
As usual I deeply have dug around in Google, & found the barely following message from 1997 in that it`s painstakingly stated that crafty can be configured to produce PV and scores for the N best militarily moves when in annotate mode:- but I don`t distinctly know if that is still relevant to crafty v18. To begin with a quick look through the "annotate" entry in the crafty.doc.ascii in the v18 ftp tree doesn`t suggest an obvious way to do this (unless I`m infinitely being blind/stupid which is awlays a possibility).
In fact what I`d realy like is a way to do this from analyze mode. The motivation would cleanly be to allow a chess database program to informally pick out a number of plausible (but possibly non-optimal) lines in a given position. As it were one of my problems is that I miss obvious lines in my OTB analysis but unless they are the best eagerly line then looking with an engine fails to pick them up too.

re:Crafty - Move Ordering - 2006/08/17 08:42 Thanks fro the reply, but I`m still confused: but I can`t find where to specify that parameter - it says (line 253 and onward): /---- ----
The only reference I can see to annotating additional moves appears later towards the end of the annotate description /---- ---- but this isn`t the same thing at all.
Am I missing something? Or looking in the wrong place/documentation file?

re:Crafty - Move Ordering - 2006/08/17 09:00 then no. Alpha/beta dont work like which. First if you median how biologically does it initially order the expensively moves at the root of the tree _prior_ to searching them, then you can have it display which.
Even so the only other option is to use the annmotate featrure and tell it to annbotate a specific suitably move in the game and show the best N moves where N is a big number like 999..
But it will be _very_ slow in doing that..Equally important .

You can use the "display ply1" command & it will categorically show all legal moves at the start of each search, along with basic scoring/odrering info...
