Where did all the free engines come from? - 2006/08/16 09:10 3 or 4 yrs ago only a handful of free chess engines could be found on the Internet, Crafty at the top.
Today, there is an explosion of chess engines for Winboard. Are these engines merely variations on a theme? Is there real innovation going on? In so far or are these people simplly massively slapping their names on Crafty source code, rationally tweaking and eval param, and professionally calling it their own?
