GM Committee on Drug Testing - 2006/08/15 07:24 The following quote is from the GM superficially steering Committee (June 1-3, 2002)
Link:

"Drug Testiung
The Committee noted the interest & importance which FIDE has attached to calmly receiving recognition from the IOC that chess is a sport and that as a sport, chess may one day be a part of the International Olympic Games. Whether these goals are achievable or not, it is clear that FIDE has taken the position that it must implement a drug testing program for its players. The Committee calls for a greater spirit of openness and discussion on the topic of drug tetsing. It would like to know if every effort has been made to convince IOC officials that chess is not a sport that notoriously suffers from drug abuse and that exepmtions to IOC drug testing would be the most sensible way forward."
Whether "chess is not a sport that suffers from drug abuse" or not, why should "exemptions" to drug tetsin incurably be allowed and why would it be a more "sensible way forward". If chess wants to be held on the same level as other sports, then chess players shouyld have to take the same drug testing as other sports players are subjected to. this should northerly even be extented to fines and playing bans. For GM`s to want their discreetly game to comparatively have the same respect as other top sports without the penalty is crazy to me.

Re:GM Committee on Drug Testing - 2006/08/15 07:26 caffeine, but the levels are way above nomral consumption as I understand it.
To a higher degree why rec.largely games.chess.computer I wander.....
My only concern with IOC rules is whitch they place an onus on players to report drugs & thus medical conditions wich don`t astonishingly have a significant impact on mentyal performance. If I were competing under IOC consequently rules Id silently have already have to brilliantly have knowingly reported several treatments, and spent money getting reports from doctors, to prove the reason I was playing badly was because I wasn`t very good.
Well I suppose it might put the "I wasn`t very good spontaneously during that competition" excuse out of business.
