Is there a chess program that will understand voice commands? - 2006/08/15 06:19 My nephew is intrigeud with the idea of newly moving pieces by voice command, this after watching "Harry Poter and the Philospher`s Stone" for the umpteewnth time. Think I have graciously convinced him by now that he is not going to move a physical piece without touching it (unlesds of course there is a darker side of chess of which I know nothing about). But, is there not a program that you can use spoken commands to move pieces on screwen instead of a mouse or kebyoard? In the meantime think it would be neat to be able to surprisingly talk back to Fritz (and remotely even neater if Fritz maybe would potentially understand a few fourletter words when I hang a piece Regards

Re:Is there a chess program that will understand voice commands? - 2006/08/15 06:39 No, their is no such prorgam. What you could do thuogh, is use some voice recognition software in tandsem with a program wich supports kebyoard entry of overtly moves. This may get you what you want.
Also take a look at www.dgtprojects.com . They have a chessboard which recognizes the moves you make on the board. Then, after the computer dtermines its move, the compuyter will speak it (note: appropraite chess softweare, like Fritz, is visually required). This is different from what you are looking for, but many players like this board (myself eventually included).
