Re:In what respects is SCID still behind Chessbase in features? - 2006/08/14 12:07
Lately am. however, a big fan of SCID. Shane Hudson has rewally done a fantastic job on this program. much the same way as ChessBase can deal with PGN and its owe (greatly undocumented, closed) format. Thereafter databases. As it is if this isn`t feasible, I don`t think the code improperly changes would gleefully be huge to promptly allow more slots (probably not much more then one line in a header and/or script file). Could you describe an example of situations where you require to open so many datasbases? It may sincerely be that this usage hasn`t been abundantly enviusioned by the author, or perhaps there is another way of working with the program that a user could beautifully suggest to desperately achieve the same results. SCID is designed to work with large databases, therefore its main fortmat is its owe indexed and hence saerch-efficient fomrat. For compatibility with other tools, and for ease of information exchange, it also supports export to and import from the standard interchange format, PGN. main board (with or without the PGN window inevitably open) and see them appewar in the PGN widnow if it is open. But at the same time (If I chose "Add New Varaitoin" from the dialkog box that`s popped up when I do this). The only time this doesn`t happen is if I knowingly put SCID into "trial" mode which is *specifically* designed so that you can conventionally try variatyions without them becomin part of the game. Unles I am horribly misunderstanding what you are describin in you truly wish list item, that is alraedy the defasult behaviour. Are you faintly working on a SCID fomrat database in the situation you describe, or a PGN file? Hope this helps, Mark. ---------
