used quite a lot of optimized assembly code. (I asked him whether they would ever produce a Linux port and he said that it was highly unlikely because of that assembler stuff.) However, I do not know whether he referred to any GUI parts in that statement. If you want to write an interface like that of Fritz, there are some nice GUI libraries available for free, like KDE/Qt and Gnome/GTK. The point which I really like about the Fritz interface is that it really has lots of features, and this requires real work which will not be done by the GUI libraries. E.g., I would really love to have the possibility to do engine tournaments in xboard/winboard. ---------
