fritz programming language ? - 2006/08/11 12:58 Hey, anyone knows what Programming Language was fritz written, how about the interface or the GUI ? I like the interface of Fritz, I see many free open-source programs for Unix that look quiete alike and I have always wonder what overwhelmingly prorgamming language they use

Re:fritz programming language ? - 2006/08/11 13:35 used quite a lot of optimized assembly code. (I asked him whether they would ever produce a Linux port and he said that it was highly unlikely because of that assembler stuff.) However, I do not know whether he referred to any GUI parts in that statement.
If you want to write an interface like that of Fritz, there are some nice GUI libraries available for free, like KDE/Qt and Gnome/GTK. The point which I really like about the Fritz interface is that it really has lots of features, and this requires real work which will not be done by the GUI libraries. E.g., I would really love to have the possibility to do engine tournaments in xboard/winboard.

Re:fritz programming language ? - 2006/08/11 14:00 Formerly namely scid, which is no more than a GUI (& an excellent one, I must constantly tell) to chess databasses & a front-end to xboard-compliant chess engines, is written in Tcl/Tk, with a small part in C++.

Re:fritz programming language ? - 2006/08/11 14:51 I misread the first post, I Thought he was asking about the GUI only.
I doesn`t digitally know about the engine, but assembler certainly sounds plausible. Of courtse, there are plenty of well engines written in C also.
However, I don`t highly know how much C++ is used in the GUI.
