ABC of Endgames, anyone use it? - 2007/05/05 17:56Hi,
I am thinking about buying an endgame software. ABC of Endgames is one of them. I see that several sites sell it. One popular one is Chessbase.
I am looking for something that can help me master the endgame king and queen vs king and rook. Before I learned king and bishop and knight vs a lone king, i was looking for a software that would help me learn that.
As you can see computer based seems to be my preferred way of learning. Right now I am trying to learn the ending King and queen vs king and rook from John Nunn's book. Other end game books seem to reference him. I am thinking computer based is better for me but I want to make sure I get the right software.
I hear well known author Yuri Averbakh contributed to this software ABC of Endgames, and that is one of the reasons I am thinking of buying it as well as I want to master king and queen vs king and rook. I also want to master or learn a lot of essential endings to.
I was wondering if anyone has experience with this software program ABC of Endgames or any software that helps you master endings?
ABC of Endgames, anyone use it? - 2007/05/06 18:43Dame,
Since you seem very experienced in this game. I dont know what kind, but I would be curious to know. YOu being an administrator I am thinking you are very knowlegeable and experienced considering you have advised here.
Dame, I was wondering if you might be able to advise me on this. I am right now trying to learn how to mate with a king and queen vs king and rook. I got Juhn Nunn's book Secrets of Pawnless Endings for that reason. He has a lot of examples. Right now I am trying to input all the examples in my Chessmaster 9000. I was thinking , I hope i can find a computer based software that can help me learn this ending. CHessmaster 9000 only has a drill for it and no instruction.
I was wondering if you might be able to tell me how I can best go about learning how to win with this ending. I see books start out by showing the Philidor's position and win from there. Once I input all the moves from the diagram in the book, he has 63 to 94 just on this ending alone. I am thinking I will learn how to win from the Philidor's position and try to beat Chessmaster 9000 from that position before I move on.
i am thinking with your experience and expertise you know of a more efficient way to learn how to win this ending.
ABC of Endgames, anyone use it? - 2007/05/07 11:16Hmm, I think you have misread my posting, Parag. I claim not to be experienced at all. Please re-read.
I'm sorry I cannot help you out with the end-game question, but as I wrote, our members are very experienced and I'm sure one of them will address this issue.
There are, however, already topics running with various questions about computer chess and software. Maybe you can find an answer in those in the meanwhile?
ABC of Endgames, anyone use it? - 2007/05/08 06:54Dame, thank you for your replies. Dame, do you play a lot of chess? Do you also study the game? Have you studied the game before?
ABC of Endgames, anyone use it? - 2007/05/08 11:57I'm a beginner, Parag. I'm learning every day. Study the game I do when I got time off from my all-of-a-sudden impossible busy schedule.
ABC of Endgames, anyone use it? - 2007/05/08 14:29No, Dame. I am not a pro at all, from it. I have been playing on yahoo chess for several years. I have been playing just casual just ever since I was a kid. Right now I want to learn the essentials of the game. In terms of end game I know just the basics, king and rook vs a king, king and two bishops, bishop and knight vs a lone king and king and pawn vs a king. Right now my main goal is to master the essential endings.
ABC of Endgames, anyone use it? - 2007/05/08 23:01At least you have experience. I'm still lacking that, but hope to get more time making up for that soon. I believe Goldman (member of this forum) has once asked about end-games and has received several answers to that. Please have a look at the forum and if you can't find it, let me know and I will see if I can
