customizable chess engine - 2008/05/01 23:36 Hi,

I'm searching a highly customizable chess engine for use in my latest project. Therefore I need to configure the engine as detailed as possible because I want to simulate real players with their strengths and also weaknesses. Do you know any engine that is free and that customizable? (that might be playing offensive/defensive, caring about the security of one's king or caring less than attacking, liking/disliking playing gambits, being quite good in openings but bad afterwards...and not only "level 1 to 100")

Your answers will be a big help for me. Thanks in advance,

MooToo

customizable chess engine - 2008/05/02 00:03 A chess engine that gets out of bed on the wrong foot in the morning...a chess engine that gets pissed on friday nights....one that plays better at 10 o'clock at night than at 10 in the morning. One that gets grumpy and wipes the pieces of the board.....
I think you may have to write the software yourself.
Good Luck

customizable chess engine - 2008/05/02 00:11 Yeah, that sounds great

But some engines I used have some parameters like the ones i mentioned. For instance in the Baron-configuration file I found the lines:

# Percentage of the kingsafety scores in evaluation.
# Can be > 100% but not lower than 0%
kingsafety 100
pawnshield 100

So there are engines that behave partly the way I described. Baron has no other options like that that, so might there be any other? Do you know about one?

Try NagaSkaki 5.00
http://www.mayothi.com/skaki_500.zip

Has it's own GUI and you can create personalities by changing the weights of varios settings such as king safety, etc.
