Looking for a old Sicilian Game - 2006/07/11 18:42 Q to the group,

I'm looking for the score a Sicilian played in the US Championships during the 1960-1970 period. White was played by R Byrne and I'm not sure if Black was L Evans. White played a series of line clearance sacrifices to bring out a mating attack - couldn't find it in US
Championships by Soltis or on the Chessgames.com database. ? Have the wrong players ? I recall Byrne wanting to spring his tactical analysis on Fischer but he didn't get paired with him with the right color combination.

Thanks in advance.

Is this the game you want? Nicbase Online has two copies with different years (1965 and 1966) and different move orders in the opening, but they are identical after move 7. The 1966 game uses the standard Najdorf move order:

[Event "New York"] [Date "1966.??.??"] [White "Byrne, Robert Eugene"] [Black "Evans, Larry Melvyn"] [Result "1-0"]
1. e4 c5 2. Nf3 d6 3. d4 cxd4 4. Nxd4 Nf6 5. Nc3 a6 6. Bg5 e6 7. f4 Qb6 8.
Qd2 Qxb2 9. Rb1 Qa3 10. e5 dxe5 11. fxe5 Nfd7 12. Bc4 Bb4 13. Rb3 Qa5 14.
O-O O-O 15. Bf6 gxf6 16. Qh6 Qxe5 17. Nf5 exf5 18. Ne4 Bd2 19. Nxd2 Qd4 20.
Kh1 Ne5 21. Rg3 Ng4 22. h3 Qe5 23. Rf4 Qe1 24. Nf1 Qxg3 25. Rxg4 Qxg4 26.
hxg4 Nd7 27. Ng3 Kh8 28. Bd3 Rg8 29. Bxf5 Rg6 30. Bxg6 fxg6 31. Ne4 b5 32.
g5 Bb7 33. Nxf6 Nf8 34. Qh2 Bc8 35. Qe5 Ne6 36. Nd7.

re:Looking for a old Sicilian Game - 2006/07/11 19:45 Thanks! This is the game. I remember the gist of the attack - 15. Bf6 followed by 16.Qh6 and 17. Nf5! which helps seal off the king side.
Thanks again
J Wan.
