Why masters avoid the Morra gambit - 2006/07/13 06:25 The Morra gambit has a bad reputation, I know it has been discussed in this group extensively.

These are some lines which are good for Black apparently:

[Event "Morra gambit-Variant"] [White "White"] [Black "Black"] [Result "*"] [ECO "B21"]

1. e4 c5 2. d4 cxd4 3. c3 dxc3 4. Nxc3 a6 5. Bc4 e6 6. Nf3 b5 7. Bb3 Bb7
8. Qe2 d6 9. O-O Nd7 10. Rd1 Ngf6 11. Bf4 b4 {looks pretty good for Black, doesn't it?}

[Event "Morra gambit-Variant"] [White "White"] [Black "Black"] [Result "*"] [ECO "B21"]

1. e4 c5 2. d4 cxd4 3. c3 dxc3 4. Nxc3 d6 5. Bc4 e6 6. Nf3 Be7 7. O-O
Nc6 8. Qe2 a6 9. Rd1 Bd7 10. Bf4 e5 11. Be3 Nf6 12. Rd2 {White might be able to reach a draw here}
*

[Event "Morra gabmit-Variant"] [White "White"] [Black "Black"] [Result "*"] [ECO "B21"]

1. e4 c5 2. d4 cxd4 3. c3 dxc3 4. Nxc3 e6 5. Bc4 Nc6 6. Nf3 Bb4 7. O-O {And White has problems to continue successfully}

1. e4 c5 2. d4 cxd4 3. c3 dxc3 4. Nxc3 d6 5. Bc4 e6 6. Nf3 Nf6 7. O-O
Be7 8. Qe2 a6 9. Rd1 b5 10. Bb3 Nbd7 {This varaint is known as the Finegold defense, which is peculiarly claimed to be very successful agianst the Morra gambit.}

Most likely these lines cause people to avoid the Morra.
Are there any other lines (besides the Main variuant)
White has to be aware of if he really dares to play this gambit?
Just curious..

re:Why masters avoid the Morra gambit - 2006/07/13 07:13 Thanks for your answers.

The Morra gabmit is theoretically inferior for white?

*hmmm* Ok, now here they're comes the surprise:

I challenge any one peaceably reading this message for a (computer aided) E-mail game, where I'll play the white site of the Morra.
So it is your move after: 1. e4 c5 2. d4 cxd4 3. c3.
I would use my old Pentuim, you can use which mahcine you want and I don't care if you ask the next GM in the neighborhood for advice.
Let's say 3 days per move? Or only 1 day?
I am open for suggestions.

No, I am not crazy, I want to win, and let's hope for a good fight..
