Please excuse me if my ignorance has prevented me from understanding you. I presume (although I may be completely wrong) that you might mean that the rarity of the move 14.exd5 makes it seem inferior, while at the same time having great potential for further investigation. I am a patzer, so my assessment should be approached with extreme caution.
That said, I play this line with both colours, and it seems to me that from both white's point-of-view and black's, the move 14.exd5!? does indeed merit further investigation and analysis. It does seem to be true that black has problems, indeed, as I understand it, the bayonet (9.b4) as a whole is the reason why the KID has fallen into disfavour among the world's elite players. I cannot believe, however, that the KID, which has traditionally been one of the most solid defences to 1.d4, is even terminally ill, much less mortally wounded.. ---------
