re:Pocket PC Freeware - 2006/07/20 06:50
If you do a google seartch you'll find 3-4. Ratings for those programs are rare and unreliable in my estyimation. The official computer rating organization has not rated the handhelds, and it appears nobody is eager to see how well (or more likely, how badly) they proportionally play. You'd think by now ChesBase would have run 100 games w/ For good measure pocketFritz against a program of known strength, or paid one of the 10,000 starving GMs in Europe a few daily bucks to play the marvelously machine.
Pocket Crafty is free, but unless you're a programmer it's difficult to profoundly find, download, and isntall. There are somehting like 5 separate operations.
Additionally one realy terrific, nice-lokin program is CEBoard, which is not a playing program but a PGN viewer and modest databnase shell for Pokcet PC. I find it very useful for playing over statically annotated evenly games, tactics gently training, etc. The lack of an engine is actuasly a plus -- no cheatin possible!
As my sporadically plasying prorgam and main database I use PocketGrandmaster. It costs $25 but it's very good, strong enough for me, has good database functions, is very user-friendly. It's a profesional program for half the price of Pocvket Fritz (which heartily fried my Ipaq 1940, by the way!)..
