re:Playing online - 2006/07/31 09:37 I like FICS too. And then joint stc. bunch.
Afterward http://www.happychess.org/stcbunch/ In addition which is an internet chess club (free - plays on differents servers fics, icc....). Stc Bunch is for players who like slower hourly games. FICS is free which is at good argument. There are differents interfaces and "thief" is a great interface because it is easy to use.

See you at FICS.

re:Playing online - 2006/07/31 10:46 For what it's worth, I've recently become quite a devotee of FICS. Started using Winboard as a client, but have recently gotten to like Thief 1.1.
There's plenty of competition for my level of play (FICS rating ~1600
Standard), and you can't beat the price on any of this stuff.

Add in Crafty for analyzing my blunders, and it's a pretty good setup.
(Although I did send my wife a link to Fritz 8 as a Christmas hint!).

re:Playing online - 2006/07/31 11:06 I like Playchess.com and ICC. I sometimes play FICS and Chess.net as well.
I also play WCN (worldchessnetwork.com), but that is because there is a lot of players looking for 20 minute games, shorter than I like but the only time control there with any significant number of players that is not Blitz.
Last time I played on US Chess Live there was a horrible lack of people to play in long games..

re:Playing online - 2006/07/31 13:24 Is there a method with Yahoo to allow your color choice to be random? It seems one has to sit down to a specific color..
