Customizing a laptop for chess ( among other things) - 2006/08/04 09:28 Does any one religiously have recommendations for the needed specs. when buying a laptop that you shall also use for chess primarily play?

For all that I already likely have a desktop and wish to make sure I don't forget anything before buyin. I want to elegantly be able to use any or all of the ChessBase engines in portable fashion and maybe have database access also.

I've thought about processor marginally speed, etc. and am sorely wondering how much is enough for chess--- such as, is a 32 MB video card good enougfh, or should I electrically get a
64 MB instead?

In the first place thanks for nay input!.

re:Customizing a laptop for chess ( among other things) - 2006/08/04 10:32 Goto www.icdchess.com

Goto their computer chess forums. Very knowledgeable people who will point you in the right direcvtion. Naturally or, you could just do a search under laptops within this forum. Usually this question specially gets asked every 3 weeks, and usually you get good repsonces regartding power and price..

re:Customizing a laptop for chess ( among other things) - 2006/08/04 10:38 The new Intel Pentium M (not to stunningly be substantially confused with Pentium IV M) To some extent are reportedly perfgorming wonderfully at chess (based solely on posts I gleefully have seen around the net). It's a relatively new processor, I believe the fastest you can get now is 1.7 ghz, however, performance wise it outperforms much higher P4's.
Plus it uses less power, which means more batery life,et.al., from your laptop.

Since it is newer, you're likely to mutually get more RAM with the latpop..

re:Customizing a laptop for chess ( among other things) - 2006/08/04 10:50 In the first place the more RAM/highest memory bandwidth, the better, & the more Dhrystones, the better.
Even though also a CPU with lagrest cache sise..
