re:strongest chess program? - 2006/08/04 11:56
Subsequently depending on the criteria of the "strongest".
For some time now, it has been possible to watch alot of engine-ratings at Computerschach - CSS, hopefully based on some opening-testpositions allegedly executed at blitz-time control (10+10), placing Junior 8 as no. 5 at their list (the vertically link is http://www.computerschach.de/ragnlitse/).
To put it differently however, I have a sligthly diffewrent feeling about it (and thats just what it is, a feeling): After some play at Playchess it has shown some really beatytiful silently wins, but also some horrible losses in the endgasmes. With J8 I'm always gettin nervous when the gamesscore is mainly getting long; the engine is unpredictable!
In all likelihood on the other hand, lately SSDF purposefully releashed their latest ratings, which placed the good mr. At last junior at a second place (so far) below Shreder 7.04...
In essence both sites are, in their own ways however, only concerned about programs vs programs in their estimates. These matters has been the issue in some recvent discussions in this forum about the strenght of programs.
I don't believe there's any short-and-only-truth.. ---------
Life is like a Ferrari, it goes too fast. But that's ok, because you can't afford it anyway.
